PAYPAL Design System (FOUNDATION)
PayPal is the faster, safer way to send money, make an online payment, receive money or set up a merchant account. Today it is one of the most popular platforms for online payments.
PayPal has the mission to redesign the PayPal Design System.
Business problem
PayPal was acquired multiple products globally Xoom and Venmo, but the current design system was not scalable. And we did not have the reusable components to use across the PayPal family, or products.
Inconsistent design leading to a greater cognitive load of the users.
Difficulty in finding the relevant information. And older design elements.
Goals:
Create scalable and global design elements that can be shared across products and represent the brand strategy
To create simple, intuitive, friendly and accessible experiences along with making it ADA compliant or accessibility compliant
My Role
Review the existing Design System.
Identify different PayPal products for a design refresh.
Design Refresh had 5 unique concepts: Tiles, Borderless, Venice, Wild Card Fresh and Wild Card Color.
I worked on the “Borderless” concept.
Low fidelity prototypes.
High fidelity design & guidelines.
CHALLENGES
Converting the older designs to new designs using the elements in the design system.
Making the design scalable for multiple platforms for product that were only optimized for one platform.
Identifying gaps and adding new design elements to the existing system.
Co-ordinating with different product teams.
Constraints of the Borderless concept - minimal colors, no tiles, white header
SOLUTION
One Universal Design system for all of the PayPal products and services.
Accessibility, UX, IA improvements.
Combining the key elements of different concepts like Borderless, Tiles and componnents
